Elliot Page Embraces Trans Joy With Shirtless Photo

Actor Elliot Page has shared a moment of trans joy on Instagram.
Page, who is transgender and nonbinary, posted a photo of himself shirtless.
“Dysphoria used to be especially rife in the summer,” he wrote. “No layers, just a T-shirt — or layers and oh so sweaty — constantly looking down, readjusting my oversized T. It feels so f’ing good soaking in the sun now, I never thought I could experience this, the joy I feel in my body. I am so grateful for what gender affirming care has allowed me and I look forward to sharing more of my journey soon.”

Reaction to the photo, posted Wednesday, includes over a million likes and many supportive comments about gender-affirming care. The provision of this care is under attack in state legislatures around the nation, with nearly 20 states having enacted laws or policies banning the treatments for trans minors and several others considering bans. “The government should not be forcing people back into closets,” one commenter wrote.
Page, star of Juno, The Umbrella Academy, and more, came out as trans in December 2021. They have become a vocal advocate for trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people, appearing on the cover of Time and speaking out against oppressive legislation.
The actor has a memoir, Pageboy, coming out June 6. He will be on a book tour beginning that day and scheduled to include appearances in New York City; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Madison, Wis.; Washington, D.C.; London; Berlin; Cologne, Germany; and Manchester, England.
