ELLWOOD CITY – The Ellwood City Area School Board has agreed to the creation of a gaming/electronic sports club, beginning this upcoming school year.

The club will be advised by district Technology Director Katelyn Grzybowski and will be available for all students in grades 8-12, ages 13 and older.

According to Lincoln 10-12 grade Principal John Sovich, not only will the club allow students the chance to enjoy a recreational activity that many enjoy, but can also potentially benefit students, as there are more and more colleges accepting esports scholarships to students as well.

The school board also agreed to officially recognize the Golf Boosters and Girls Basketball Boosters as official affiliate organizations of the district.

In addition, it agreed to update a district policy for advanced placement courses, to allow students who wish to attempt an AP course to request a waiver from the counselor’s office.
