Elmira-area Five Guys Burgers and Fries is reopening Friday. What to know

The wait is over for fans of Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

The burger joint at 950 County Road 64, between Big Flats and Horseheads, is set to reopen its doors to customers on Friday morning.

The Five Guys franchise has been closed since Jan. 16 for a complete remodel of the interior of the restaurant.

“It’s totally different. It’s a whole new layout,” said General Manager Candi Bauman. “Everything has been changed.”

Five Guys has been at the Big Flats Road location since August of 2011. Bauman said the recent renovation project will improve the customer experience.

“It’s an initiative to upgrade the store, keep up with the times and make improvements,” she said. “It’s a franchise thing. They do our stores every 10 years.”

The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce will help Five Guys mark the occasion with a Grand Re-Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday at 10 a.m. The store will then resume normal store hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day of the week.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is known for its fresh burgers, which the company touts are never frozen, along with hot dogs, sandwiches and fries. The first Five Guys debuted in 1986 and the chain expanded rapidly in the early 2000s.

The local store is reopening with 20 employees. Bauman said Five Guys will open up more job positions in the future.
