Elmo Brings Peace to the Lannisters in an Epic 'Sesame Street' x 'GoT' Crossover

HBO has finally figured out a way to get your kids into Game of Thrones and we have to hand it to them: it’s a genius solution. On Thursday, a video featuring Sesame Street‘s Elmo teaching Tyrion and Cersei Lannister about respect made its way to the internet. The video is not only an adorable way to illustrate how kids should listen to one another and consider each other with kindness, but it gives us a decidedly cuter version of Tyrion and Cersei’s relationship that lets us imagine a world where they end up actually liking each other. Everybody wins!

The video — titled “Respect is Coming” in a brilliant riff on one of GoT most famous phrase “Winter is Coming” — begins with Tyrion and Cersei sitting across from each other. Tyrion implores, “You can’t ignore me forever,” as Cersei looks away from him and gives him the silent treatment.

He goes on to say, “I only want what’s best for Westeros,” prompting Cersei to respond with, “And I only want for you to not get what you want.”

GoT fans are familiar with this tense set-up between the siblings and are likely prepared for the conversation to not go well. And things almost do go south as Tyrion fires back with, “See? This is why you don’t have any friends,” but then, someone barges in. Who could it be?

Elmo. Duh.

Dressed in GoT-appropriate armor, complete with an Elmo house sigil, Elmo takes a seat at the table and tries to calm Tyrion and Cersei down. He also sees this stalemate between the Lannister sibs as a teachable moment on respect.

After introducing himself as “Elmo of House Sesame Street,” Elmo tells the Lannisters, “Elmo thinks that you two need to respect each other,” and after providing some pretty convincing evidence about how respect has worked for him and his friends (and despite Cersei scoffing at him), goes on to say, “Elmo doesn’t get upset. Elmo listens and learns from what they have to say.”

At first, it’s a preposterous idea to the Lannisters. Respect? Between Tyrion and Cersei, who have been mortal enemies since day one? Who does this little red dude think he is? But the respect idea seems to take and both Tyrion and Cersei manage to talk out their problems and listen to one another.

The minute may only be a minute-and-a-half long but it is, without a doubt, the cutest thing you will see all day. Also, can we say how impressed we are the Elmo fits in very well with the world of GoT? If HBO has a way to maybe photoshop him in to the final episodes of season eight, we would definitely not be opposed.
