Things are rather quiet on the Eastern front when it comes to live entertainment at the beach. While February is traditionally a slow month for area businesses overall, there are some upcoming events which are sure to please.

In coastal Sussex County, the Milton Theatre has a busy schedule of shows on tap that will include four consecutive ones starting Thursday. The venue is on a roll this winter, having sold out a half-dozen shows in the past two weeks.

Tickets are also sold out for the 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, presentation of Philadelphia Freedom: A Tribute to Elton John. Pennsylvania singer-pianist Doug Delescavage, who is in his mid-20s, is accompanied by a backing band that joins him in recreating the high-energy atmosphere of Elton’s early tours.

The Milton Theatre will host the Black Opry Revue at 8 p.m.on Saturday, Feb. 4.

The humorous side of romance will be the focus at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, as the Milton Theatre presents "Crush(ed): Relationships Are Funny — A Pre-Valentines Stand-Up Comedy Show" ($14). Host Keith Purnell will present headliner Don Hines, featured comedian Dylan Tucker and special guest Al Carroll.

At 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, the theater will present the exclusive area tour stop of the Black Opry Revue ($32). This traveling songwriter circle and mini-festival showcases Black artists who explore Americana music — which includes styles such as folk, country and the blues.

Performers Saturday include Roberta Lea, Denitia, King Jester, C. Lilley and local favorite Sug Daniels. Known as the frontwoman for Delaware indie-rock/R&B quartet Hoochie-Coochie, Daniels has branched out recently with her solo acoustic shows.

Speaking of the blues, the Milton Theatre will feature hometown favorite Lower Case Blues at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5 ($15). Singer-bassist BJ Muntz and guitarist Jake Banaszak are joined by a rotating cast of guest drummers, and always deliver a rollicking yet danceable evening of tunes in the tradition of Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

In Ocean View, the town’s sixth annual Fire & Ice Festival last weekend welcomed crowds of all ages to see the work of ice sculpture artists and fire dancers outside (and indoor music at various businesses). I attended and got to make my first visit to the new location of the Dickens Parlour Theatre.

While it was previously located on westbound Route 26, it is now on the eastbound side as part of the Good Earth Market complex. The beautiful theatre inside the newly constructed building is larger than the old one, yet still cozy with great sound and sight lines.

Ran'd Shine will perform his magic act at the Dickens Parlour Theatre in Ocean View at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4.
