The Bachelor Creator Mike Fleiss Lists Modern Mediterranean Malibu Home for $18.75 Million

Heads up, Bachelor Nation: Not only is season 23 of ABC's The Bachelor set to premiere next month but Mike Fleiss, the man behind the uber-successful franchise, recently listed a handsome Malibu home worthy of a fantasy suite stay. Fleiss and his wife, former Miss America Laura Kaeppler, have owned the Mediterranean California ranch-style home since early 2016, when they bought it for a hefty $13.8 million, and are now asking $18.75 million for the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom home. Spanning 4,054 square feet and sitting on just over one acre of land—that includes more than 100 feet of south-facing bluff overlooking secluded Dume Cove—the house, from the front, is admittedly unassuming thanks to palm trees and other tropical plants all but obscuring the main entrance. Once inside, however, an air-lit combination living, dining, cooking, and entertaining space basks in natural seaside lighting courtesy of an entire wall of glass sliders, numerous skylights, and several oversize picture windows, all looking out onto a grassy green lawn and the blue ocean beyond. The living-room area is anchored by a carved stone fireplace flanked with wood-plank open shelves while the rest of the spaces present a cozy seating area and a grand piano. The adjacent dining space stands between the living room and the sleek, modern kitchen, with a set of glass sliders that opens out onto a poolside dining terrace. The kitchen itself revolves around a center island with a unique dark wood countertop sitting atop white cabinets.

A roomy media lounge just off the living room area has its own massive skylight and a nearly floor-to-ceiling picture window on one end of the room, with a dark wood built-in entertainment unit on two of the three other walls. Elsewhere in the home, each of the bedrooms has its own character, with two of the guest or family bedrooms boasting their own private patios. A third guest or staff suite features its own small kitchen. It’s the master suite, however, that is the undeniable highlight of the home, with an ocean-view bedroom attached to a sprawling bathroom with a two-person garden tub overlooking the sea, a glass-enclosed and cedar-lined dry sauna, and a separate steam shower with a solid wall of glass looking out onto a mini garden. The backyard includes various patios ideal for alfresco dining and lounging, all surrounding a massive swimming pool and spa, with a slightly elevated stone terrace with a fire pit directly on the bluff’s edge. On clear days, the view even encompasses Catalina Island in the distance. Fleiss and Kaeppler have offloaded (and purchased!) a few homes in the past few years: In early 2016, prior to buying this Mediterranean-style home, the couple sold off a Malibu compound that previously belonged to Mel Gibson’s ex-wife. That same year, they sold off a never-lived-in Hawaiian hideaway for $12.85 million. They currently own a 1,300-square-foot Hawaiian surf shack located on Kauai’s Hanalei Bay, as well as an oceanfront property they bought from Julia Roberts for $16.2 million in 2016.
