Investigation continues in deadly Davenport mobile-home fire
UPDATE: A deadly fire remained under investigation late Tuesday, according to Davenport Firefighters.
Davenport sent three engines, two ladder trucks, and one district chief for an initial response of 15 personnel.
The Scott Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a postal carrier delivering mail in the area. The postal carrier said he could see smoke coming from the mobile home. First arriving fire crews found a mobile home with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front portion of the residence. The blaze was beginning to spread to a nearby mobile home.
Crews extended multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire and protect the nearby mobile home, and the fire was out in about 10 minutes.
During a search of the mobile home, one person was found deceased. The incident is under investigation and no names are being released until family members have been notified.
Crews remained on the scene for several hours to extinguish spot fires and investigate the cause of the fire.
EARLIER: Davenport Police, Firefighters, and the Scott County Coroner’s Office were on the scene of a fatal mobile-home fire Tuesday afternoon at Ted’s Mobile Home and RV Park, 3705 W. Locust St., Davenport.
Police have confirmed with Our Quad Cities News crew that one person has died.
The fire started about 2:20 p.m. and resulted in extensive damage to the mobile home. The smell of smoke lingered as firefighters sifted through debris and tossed charred items from a window.
Neighbors, some overcome with emotion, tried to comfort each other at the scene.
It’s too early to know how the fire started.
