Emergency Response Continues Following Deadly Madrid Explosion

Emergency response crews remained at the scene of a deadly explosion in Madrid, Spain, late on Wednesday, January 20, as officials confirmed at least three people had died in the blast.

Spain’s Interior Ministry said one person remained missing and at least seven were injured following the explosion in downtown Madrid on Wednesday afternoon.

At least four floors of a building were destroyed by the explosion. Local news reports said the explosion was believed to have been caused by a gas leak and investigations were underway.
