STAUNTON — Emilio's and Pompei Lounge closed last year leaving a gaping hole for late night entertainment and Italian food in Staunton. Closing in November last year, owner Emilio Amato was looking to retire.

He had his Italian restaurant — Emilio's — located at 23 E. Beverley St. for 27 years and he said he was done. That also included the night club, drink bar and sometimes music venue Pompei, which is located upstairs from the restaurant.

The property was listed with Lee and Associates for almost $1.1 million. The four story 8,629 square foot historic building is listed on the historic registry and is eligible for tax credits, the listing said.

According to city records, the property was sold June 15 to Oakbrook LLC for $824,743. The city confirmed the sale and said the new owner is Tracie Steger Skipper. According to Skipper's Facebook, she is the Company and Facilities Manager at American Shakespeare Center and was formerly the production manager at the Wayne Theatre.

For the past several months, work has been going on inside. According to permits posted on the outside window, there are three permits for interior renovations — including plumbing, electric and commercial alteration.

There is no indication of what the space will be. The News Leader reached out to Skipper for more information on what will be put into the building, but did not immediately hear back.
