Emily Madril, Jenna Nighswonger and Clara Robbins selected in first round of 2023 NWSL Draft

Florida State women's soccer made its presence felt in the first round of the NWSL draft Thursday with three players being selected in the opening round.

With the No. 3 overall pick, the Orlando Pride selected defender Emily Madril, while Jenna Nighswonger went one pick later to the NJ/NY Gotham. Clara Robbins was selected ninth overall by the North Carolina Courage.

A total of 256 players were available for the 48-selection, four-round draft. California high schooler Alyssa Thompson went first overall to Angel City FC.

The Seminoles and ACC rival Virginia were the only programs to have three players selected, but FSU was the lone school to have three players selected in the first round.

“It’s a great night to be a Nole. All three players have worked tirelessly to get themselves to this moment. They have all gone through hard times, but they have persevered through it all. Having all three of them having their names called in the first round is truly special,” head soccer coach Brian Pensky said in a press release.
