Eminem took to Instagram over the weekend to celebrate an important milestone: 11 years of sobriety. The rapper noted the occasion with a picture of his sobriety chip and the caption "11 years-still not afraid."

11 years - still not afraid.

This isn't the first time Marshall has acknowledged the subject on the platform. Last year, he posted about his decade-long sobriety in a similar manner, showing his followers his coin and noting he was celebrating.

More than 2.3 million people have liked this weekend's powerful post and many celebrities (Michael Phelps and Taryn Manning, to name a few) are in the comments supporting him. Mostly, though, the comments are from admiring fans who are in recovery themselves or had no idea Eminem was sober.

One of the first times he addressed his sobriety publicly was back in 2015 in an interview with Men's Journal. The piece (called "How Eminem Beat Addiction with Exercise") went viral after he confirmed he'd overdosed eight years prior:

In 2007, I overdosed on pills, and I went into the hospital. I was close to 230 pounds. I'm not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas. The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I'd been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating-and eating badly.

When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober. Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect. It's easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise.
