Emmerdale's Harriet Finch may have just dealt a killer blow to DI Malone.

In a shock cliffhanger tonight (August 17), Harriet came to the rescue of Dawn Taylor as the corrupt copper tried to tempt her with drugs – but did the resulting scuffle kill Malone?

Last week's scenes saw Dawn report Malone to the police, only for the news to filter back him. Furious, he reminded Dawn of how dangerous he can be, before hinting that he'd kidnapped her young son Lucas.

In tonight's scenes, Malone continued to intimidate Dawn, telling her that her testimony against him had been taken as false.

Dawn tried to remain calm, but Malone then sought to use Dawn's past addiction against her by producing a wrap of heroin and a syringe from his pocket as Dawn recoiled in horror.

Malone then pulled a gun out and began to walk towards Dawn, encouraging her to take her own life by overdosing. Terrified, she broke down in tears.

However, before Dawn could do anything, Harriet burst onto the scene to rescue her and clobbered Malone over the head, leaving him unconscious – or possibly dead.

The episode ended with Malone's body sprawled on the floor for the second time in a month. Is this the end of DI Malone?

It seems unlikely that Malone's story will end here, though. Perhaps tonight's showdown will play a part in the soap's upcoming murder storyline? If so, could it spell bad news for either Harriet or Dawn.

Emmerdale currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
