Emmerdale will air poignant scenes next week as Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk learn the results of their baby scan.

The characters were at the centre of a heartbreaking storyline last year when Chas and Paddy lost a child in a deeply moving episode after their daughter Grace developed bilateral renal agenesis in the womb.

In recent months, the couple have started trying for another baby. Next week, they're scheduled to have their 20-week scan - which is exactly the point when they found out about Grace's condition.

Understandably, nerves will get the best of Paddy (Dominic Brunt) so he secretly cancels the appointment.

Chas (Lucy Pargeter) is furious when she finds out what her partner has done, but gets some encouragement from Cain (Jeff Hordley) to open up to Paddy about how she's coping.

The pair eventually decide to rearrange the scan, but are panicked as they wait to find out from the hospital staff if their child is healthy.

Following a seemingly endless wait, Chas and Paddy are overjoyed to hear that their baby is perfectly healthy! While the Dingles will celebrate the big news, Chas and Paddy choose to keep the baby's gender a secret from their family and friends for now.

Viewers will follow them for yet more emotional scenes as they visit the graveside of their late daughter Grace, where they sweetly ask her to help them keep the gender secret too.

Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
