Emmerdale's Mary Goskirk is set to receive another "big" romance storyline, according to actress Louise Jameson, who suggested that her character's avoidance of companionship will soon come to an end.

"The storyliners have hinted that something big is coming Mary's way in the love life department," she teased.

This comes after her latest love interest Faye Helders was revealed to be a scammer, with this week's Emmerdale scenes spelling the true beginning of the end for the pair.

In them, Faye attempts to blackmail poor Mary into changing her witness statement, or suffer the humiliation of having a nude picture sent to her phone's entire contact book.

"Rhona [Goskirk] wants Mary to go to the police and is championing her mother," previewed Jameson. "She's like a lioness! It's almost like Mary has become the child. Mary needs protecting at that point, so Rhona tries to step in."

Reflecting on the disheartening conclusion of Mary's first romance plot since coming out, the former Doctor Who and EastEnders star went on to share: "How sad is that but how clever are the writers to come up with the storyline? It's an important one, elderly people being scammed.

"If you're over 70 and you live alone and you're not familiar with technology, you're vulnerable. I would say to anyone if you're ever unsure over a text, ask a friend or a neighbour whether it's legitimate. I do it all the time, I ask my friends."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
