Gail Loman is struggling after finally meeting her son Oscar in Emmerdale.

Over the last week, Gail has learned that her long-lost son Oscar has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia – a severe condition caused by a deficiency in all types of blood cells.

Gail and Ryan chose to give up their son for adoption at birth, yet have been asked by his adoptive mother, Sophie, to get tested for a possible marrow donation.

In Tuesday's (September 26) episode, Gail was determined to get Ryan to help Oscar and while he initially agreed, he soon turned down the chance to actually meet his son.

Sophie was left to take Gail to meet Oscar on her own, while Ryan secretly packed a bag and made plans to leave the village.

Over at the hospital, it was a frosty reunion for Gail when she finally met her son and had to answer some very difficult questions.

Gail struggled to open up to her son, explaining that her mouth doesn't always catch up with her brain. Oscar angrily asked her to "speed it up" since he had many questions to get through and not much time.

The soap cut back to the village and Gail was later seen sitting at the bar of the Woolpack explaining to Marlon Dingle how the day had gone.

"It's like backward coming forwards. He had a lot of questions… It was tough, it was happy, it was sad, only like, in reverse," she told Marlon.

Marlon assured Gail that what she was feeling was normal, as he'd felt like he had a "whiplash of emotions slapping [him] in the face" the first time he met his own daughter April.

When Gail admitted she was sad Ryan didn't attend, Marlon tried to defend him: "Ryan just felt ambushed, I think."

And, unfortunately, Gail soon found out that Ryan's feelings were so intense that he'd packed up and left the village to go stay with his brother Josh for a time. Will Gail and Ryan's relationship survive this tragic turn of events?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
