Prepare for emotional scenes in tonight’s Emmerdale. The ITV soap, which airs at 7.30pm in an hour-long episode, sees Kyle Winchester’s (Huey Quinn) family struggling to deal with his uncertain future after the youngster confessed to killing Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).
Kyle picked up the shotgun that his father, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), brought to the barn to scare enemy Al, and accidentally pulled the trigger. In the aftermath, Cain took the blame and was sent to prison.

When Kyle confessed to his family, they tried everything to protect him — but the intervention of Cain’s long-lost brother Caleb Miligan (William Ash) led Kyle to hand himself into the police. Kyle’s mum Amy Wyatt (Natalie Jamieson), and stepmum Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) were later questioned, and Kyle was asked if he wanted to stick to his statement.
When he again admitted to killing Al, Kyle was charged with murder. But, heartbreakingly, all Kyle wanted to know was whether this meant his dad could finally come home. Moira and Amy learned that Kyle will soon be taken to a local children’s home before his first court hearing, and Moira dreaded to think how Cain would react.
Calling his wife from jail, Cain vented his fury before hanging up on her, leaving Moira devastated. What’s next for the family?
Well, Emmerdale has already teased that Cain will return home shortly after Kyle is taken away by social workers. But will he forgive Moira, who he had tasked with protecting Kyle?

Caleb has convinced the rest of the Dingles that he has Kyle’s best interests at heart, but Cain doesn’t trust him. Is he right to be wary?
Emmerdale explored the brothers’ history in a flashback episode at the end of last year, which revealed that Cain once took the fall for Caleb’s crime. Is Caleb merely trying to repay a debt, or does he have a hidden agenda?
For now, though, the bigger question is: what will happen to poor Kyle in the long-term? He may have picked up a weapon, but what transpired was an accident and it was only down to his dad that he took Al’s life.
