Former Emmerdale actor Danny Miller has opened up about his mental health struggles.

The actor, who played Aaron Dingle on the soap until last year, spoke about his experience of depression in a recent interview, also revealing that he suffered anxiety on the set of Emmerdale.

"I'm not gonna sit here and lie and say, 'I wanted to kill myself', but I certainly thought it would be easier if I wasn't here," he told the Mancs on the Mic podcast with fellow Emmerdale star Adam Thomas, alongside brothers Ryan and Scott.

"At that point I didn't have any dependents, I didn't have a girlfriend, a fiancée, wife-to-be. I had family around me who loved me," Danny added of the particularly dark period.

"But I didn't have anything to lose, and I thought it would just be easier if I wasn't here, because it's only me just dealing with the thought.

"No-one else has to deal with my thoughts, just me. That was the deepest and darkest it went. I never thought about it. I couldn't."

Speaking further about suffering from anxiety, Danny said that he originally wasn't aware of what he was dealing with.

"I had it loads in Emmerdale when I've got a big scene and gone, 'Oh my god, I'm gonna pass out'," he recalled. "[The crew] go, 'Stand by', and my brain's going, 'You're gonna f**k this up'. I'm sweating. I would have to go, 'Sorry, you'll have to cut there. I'm sweating'.

"I used to think it was an overactive thyroid. That's what I got checked for. But it was anxiety, I just didn't know how to deal with it."

Following his departure from Emmerdale, Danny appeared on I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, going on to win the 2021 series.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
