Emmerdale teen Jacob Gallagher tries to trick his family tonight (June 20) as he prepares to run away with Maya Stepney.

Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) has vowed to leave the village with Maya if she avoids a custodial sentence, leading to tense scenes as he puts his plan into action.

Thursday's double bill sees Jacob pack up his things at Eric Pollard's house, needing to have everything in place for his potential escape with Maya.

When questioned over this, Jacob claims that he has decided to move back in with his stepdad David, but viewers will have to tune in to see whether his loved ones believe this or smell a rat.

Later on, Jacob joins the rest of his family in the courtroom as Maya faces the judge.

Maya has already pleaded guilty to exchanging inappropriate texts with Jacob, hoping that her admission will lead to a more lenient punishment.

As Maya hears her fate, has her plan paid off or is she still facing prison time? And how will Jacob react to the news, knowing that his next move depends entirely on the judge's decision?

Louisa Clein, who plays Maya, recently explained: "She's feeling nervous, vulnerable and anxious over what the verdict is going to be. She's on her own and she feels a sense of doom over what the future will hold.

"Because Maya can't quite accept that what she's done is wrong, she can't comprehend the possibility of a jail sentence. I suppose she's hoping she'll get a rap on the knuckles and she'll start again.

"Ideally she would imagine some sort of non-custodial sentence or a suspended sentence, then she'd move away to a different place and try to rebuild her life.

"I don't know how she'd cope in prison. It's not a nice place to be and she wouldn't be looked upon very favourably there. She's not necessarily streetwise!"

She added: "I think people want to see the right justice for this character. People need to see that there is retribution for her. People are excited and they are interested in how it's going to finish – or at least how this part of the story is going to end."

Emmerdale airs tonight at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
