Emmerdale's Liv alcoholism revisited as she comes clean to Aaron

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Liv was tempted by alcohol again in Wednesday's (May 5) Emmerdale as her guilt over the death of Paul reached a breaking point.

Liv (Isobel Steele) believes she is responsible for the death of the villain earlier last month, as she failed to rescue him from the rubble of the barn he was stuck under after a car hit it.

While Vinny (Bradley Johnson) is going through therapy to process the death of his father and the abuse he inflicted on him, Liv has been bottling up her feelings since the accident. However, both Vinny and her brother Aaron (Danny Miller) have started to notice that she is not okay.

The teenager has been brash and has avoided hanging out with either of them, deciding to stay home and clean the house instead.

Aaron confronted her tonight, urging her to come clean about why she was upset. Liv eventually took down her facade and told her brother that she believed it was her fault Paul died.

She then recalled what happened on the day of the accident, how she tried to free Paul but couldn't and was getting more and more overwhelmed as he was shouting what to do.

After he managed to free himself from under a beam, he couldn't get up by himself as his legs were crushed. Instead of carrying him out, Liv decided to run away.

"I wanted him dead," she told her brother, because of what Paul did to Vinny and herself.

In a shocking revelation, Aaron confessed that if Paul hadn't died in the accident, he wouldn't have killed him himself.

He then tried to reason with a crying Liv, reminding her that even if she tried to carry Paul out he was twice her size so she probably wouldn't have been able to. He also pointed out that the explosion that blew up the barn would have killed her too.

While Liz felt a bit better for having told her brother, she still isn't ready to tell Vinny and still feels responsible for killing his dad.

Aaron reminded her that it's better to have these things out in the open, but the guilt is still crushing Liv. At the start of the episode, she was looking longingly at a bottle of wine and by the end of it, she quickly hid it away as Aaron entered the room.

Next week we will see Liz descent into her alcoholism once more, as he catches her secretly drinking.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
