Emmerdale has given one of its most popular characters a comeback to remember in tonight's double bill, as Mandy Dingle burst back onto the scene and quickly found herself in the middle of a Dingle domestic.

While Thursday's (September 12) first episode set the scene as Jessie (Sandra Marvin) and her ex Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) got closer while her son Billy (Jay Kontzle) warned her husband Marlon (Mark Charnock) that Al wasn't to be trusted, the second episode saw Jessie and Al give into temptation.

After they shared a few kisses – and then a little something more – Jessie and Al declared that they could never let it happen again, before they, you guessed it, kissed again... only to have Mandy (Lisa Riley) interrupt the moment.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Jessie demanded.

"Ruining the moment, obviously," Mandy shot back.

With her cheating exposed before it even had a chance to sink in, Jessie quickly began pleading with Mandy not to tell Marlon what she saw, arguing that it was only one mistake and that Marlon's daughter April had been through enough.

"You're really going to go there, his little girl?" Mandy replied. "You're a cheating skank. You're not going to talk your way out of this one."

"It was one mistake, one terrible mistake," Jessie said. "Surely you've made one?"

"Plenty," Mandy seethed. "But this isn't about me, is it?"

Next we saw of Mandy, she was greeting Paddy and Marlon on the street and then watching on concerned as Marlon ran off to cook Jessie a romantic meal in apology, but it was later revealed that Mandy was right behind him and ready to push Jessie into admitting what she'd done.

"Marlon, I'm sorry – I think I'm about to break your heart," Mandy told Marlon, before turning back to Jessie and adding: "Do you want to tell him, or shall I?"

As Jessie tearfully admitted her guilt, a heartbroken Marlon was left reeling.

"No you didn't," he said. "Please tell me you didn't... What have you done?"

And there's one thing the viewers are certain about – it's good to have Mandy back:

Mandy doesn't wait long before using the situation to her advantage either, with Lisa Riley recently explaining: "Mandy hasn't got a home when she comes back. She bursts in on Al and Jessie, who are doing the wrong thing.

"Mandy was going to ask Marlon whether her and Vinny could come and live with him. That's what she wants to fulfil her first scam – she needs a house! There's a complete scam coming up and Mandy has got more faces than Big Ben at the moment.

"Nothing is held back when Mandy bursts in and sees Jessie and Al at it on the sofa. She says, 'Are you going to tell him, or shall I?' She's going to go and tell Marlon, because this is her winning streak – she knows that straight away. She completely uses it to her advantage."

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
