Emmerdale's Tracy Robinson faces an awkward encounter with her new love rival Ruby Fox-Miligan next week.

Tracy is forced to endure an awkward lunch with Ruby, who seems to be quickly winning over many of the villagers.

Thursday's hour-long episode (January 25) saw Ruby arrive in the village and rekindle her relationship with her estranged husband Caleb.

When news of Ruby's visit reached Tracy, she secretly wondered what this meant for the future of her affair with Caleb.

Next week, Caleb tries his best not to enjoy Ruby's return but he may be feeling torn over his future. Meanwhile, Ruby slips back into easy banter with her son Nicky.

Ruby then finds out that Nicky and his boyfriend Suni Sharma were involved in a homophobic attack last year and she rebukes Caleb for not telling her.

Later, Ruby decides that she wants to get closer to the Dingles and she arranges a family lunch to win them over.

Nate and Tracy are included on the invitation list. Although Tracy is reluctant to attend, Nate suggests they should try to stay in Caleb's good books.

During the family gathering, Ruby hides her nerves with alcohol.

Everyone ends up enjoying Ruby's hosting skills, leaving Tracy envious over her popularity with the family. Unfortunately, the day's events soon take an unexpected turn.

Emmerdale bosses announced the casting of Beth Cordingly as Ruby late last year. Beth previously played the role of PC Kerry Young on The Bill.

Speaking in December, Beth commented: "I'm delighted to be joining the cast of Emmerdale, it's an enormous privilege and Ruby is a dream role. She's a firecracker and a trouble-maker and I think people will love her or hate her, and I can't wait to get stuck in with this fabulous cast."

Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks added: "Ruby is an absolute force of nature who sweeps through the village with scores to settle. Fiercely loyal to her family, Ruby will do anything and everything to protect her loved ones. Her relationship with Caleb is infused with intense passion that manifests itself as the ultimate volatile relationship.

"Ruby is a character who pulls no punches and always makes an impression. We're delighted to welcome Beth to the show and we're sure she'll make a wonderful addition to the village."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
