Gregory Itzin, a familiar face known for his twice-Emmy-nominated role as President Charles Logan on “24,” died Friday. He was 74.

The actor — who also had recurring roles in “Big Love,” “The Mentalist,” “Covert Affairs,” and “Mob City” — died as a result of complications during an emergency surgery, Variety reported.

Jon Cassar, a director and executive producer on “24,” took to Twitter to mourn Itzin.

“My friend Greg Itzin passed away today,” said Cassar, 64. “He was one of the most talented actors I had the honor to work with, but more than that he was an all around great guy.”

On the show, Logan was a corrupt leader who served as an antagonist to Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer. And the actor who played a paranoid president on TV looked like one in real life.

“I’m aware of the physical resemblance to Richard Nixon,” Itzin said in an interview during his time on the show. “There’s nothing I can do about that.”

But Itzin, who was on the Fox series from 2005-2010, said he did not base his performance on Nixon.

He also had roles in “Airplane!” as well as “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” and “Law Abiding Citizen.” He appeared in three different “Star Trek” series, “Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager” and “Enterprise.”

His son Wilke said on Instagram that his father’s work on stage was equally impressive as that in front of a camera.

“He was in love with the theater, and even on his dying breath he could recite Shakespeare like he made the words up himself,” Wilke Itzin wrote.

Itzin’s last role, according to IMDb, will be a posthumous one — in the forthcoming movie, “The Requiem Boogie.” He was also supposed to act in the announced project, “Quantum Theory.”

Itzin is survived by wife Judie, children Wilke and Julia, and grandson Wylder Gregory.
