Empire Market seeks chili cook-off contestants
Nov. 15—Contestants are sought for the fifth annual chili cook-off at Joplin's Empire Market, scheduled for Jan. 20.
Judging will start that day at 10:30 a.m., and tasting will be open to the public until supplies run out.
The entry fee is $20 per individual contestant. A list of rules and regulations will be available upon payment and submission.
Cash prizes will be given for first, second and third places. A People's Choice Award and All-Market Chili Award also will be given out.
All proceeds will benefit the Downtown Joplin Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization of the city's downtown area.
Applications are available online through the market's Facebook event page. Paper copies also can be filled out from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the market, 931 E. Fourth St.
