Empire State Building plans to go green again if Eagles win Super Bowl

The Empire State Building sent New Yorkers into a frenzy when it turned green to celebrate the Philadelphia Eagles following their NFC Championship Game win.
The outrage spread far and wide. Members of the New York Giants voiced their displeasure and that was followed by anger from retired members of the New York Jets.
Even NYC Sanitation and some NYC Councilmen piled on. The common ground was that it was entirely unacceptable.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams even lamented the decision for the Empire State Building to go green.
“Listen, that got away from us,” Adams said during a CNN appearance. “The way the Eagles game got away from us with the Giants, we should have lit up in real symbolism the colors of the giant. That blue should have been there.
“Unfortunately, someone did not get the memo at the Empire State Building, but we want to see good sportsmanship. The Giants will be back next year, and the Jets will be back. We’ll be excited when they rebuild their teams.”
It appears things may get away from them again.
The Empire State Building says it will light up in green once again should the Eagles defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII.
“The Empire State Building will continue its annual practice of being a virtual scoreboard for the Super Bowl, and will then light for the winning team.” an Empire State Realty Trust spokesperson said, via the New York Post.
Ultimately, those at the Empire State Building say the color changes are a way to generate revenue. It’s intended to increase tourism and, ironically, bring in the green. Who actually cares what New Yorkers think?
“They believe they play to billions, and not locals,” a source told The Post.
