Emy J's Coffeehouse's second location, the Coffee Vault, officially opened at 6:30 a.m. Monday at 31 Park Ridge Drive in Park Ridge.

The coffee shop's second location is bigger than the one on First Street in downtown Stevens Point, and is dubbed the Coffee Vault as a nod to the vault that remains from the days when the building was home to Pioneer Bank and First State Bank.

Customers can expect a familiar Emy J's menu, including coffee, bakery items, smoothies and a shake of the day. While the Park Ridge location doesn't have ice cream on the menu, it does feature nitro brews.

Green Circle Trail gets a beer named in its honor

Last month, Point Brewery announced a new brew called Green Circle Pale Ale, inspired by the Green Circle Trail.

Julie Birrenkott, Point Brewery’s marketing director, recently told the Stevens Point Journal the idea came from a brewery production worker, who’s an avid cyclist. He even drew out a label for the idea, as well.

“Green Circle Pale doesn’t just represent our hometown — it represents our values,” Birrenkott said. “The Stevens Point area community is very important to us and the Green Circle Trail plays a big role in our recreational fun.”

Birrenkott said many Point Brewery employees, along with many other residents in the central Wisconsin area, often use the Green Circle Trail for walking dogs, biking and more.

“It’s something that makes this community special,” she said. “When you’re on the Green Circle in the summer, it’s so lush and green. That’s exactly how this beer tastes. It’s bright, refreshing and balanced.”

The Green Circle Pale Ale is available all yearlong, and a portion of proceeds are donated to the trail.

Point Brewery’s leadership met with members of the Green Circle Trail’s board of directors as they developed the beer, and the board members were excited about the idea and happy the product would help benefit the trail.

Earlier this month, Point Brewery also celebrated its new brewing system, the James and Susee Wiechmann Brew House.

According to a social media post from Point Brewery, the new system replaced one from 1985, switching from a three-vessel 100-barrel system to a six-vessel 50-barrel system. The new system is more efficient, using 50% less water, saving time and providing better quality products. With the James and Susee Wiechmann Brew House, Point Brewery can brew 100 more barrels a day.
