‘Encanto’ and ‘Frozen’ come to life, together, in Disney on Ice

After learning to glide across the ice at age 6, competitive figure skater Lyra Koutlas spent winters on Lake of the Isles and at the Parade Ice Garden in Minneapolis, where she trained with SportQuest Skating Academy.

Koutlas, who recently joined the international ensemble cast of Disney on Ice, returns to Minneapolis this month when Target Center hosts Feld Entertainment’s live renditions of “Frozen” and “Encanto,” two fan favorites that will be featured together for the first time.

In fact, this will be the first time the Madrigal family takes to ice skates for a live show, where they’ll be joined by Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald and other Disney performers and mainstays.

Prior to next weekend’s performances, Koutlas and several of her castmates will host a private skate clinic for the River Blades Skating School, which is based in Hastings. The school is run by former Disney on Ice alumna Amanda Traux.

Koutlas, a U.S. Figure Skating triple gold medalist, is a graduate of the FAIR School for Arts in downtown Minneapolis. The “Frozen and Encanto” show also has another Minnesota tie in Gig Siruno of Hopkins, a longstanding performance director with Disney on Ice and Feld Entertainment.
