Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg gets a new CEO

PETERSBURG — John Laurenzana has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in Petersburg. Laurenzna will oversee all day-to-day operations, as well as patient care and quality. He will officially begin the post in March 2022.

The 64-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital at 95 Medical Park Boulevard offers services in at least 16 areas, including pulmonary, stroke and cardiac rehabilitation.

Laurenzana began his career in healthcare leadership at Platinum Healthcare in Springfield, Illinois, where he served as administrator of two skilled nursing facilities with over 300 beds. He was responsible for daily operational oversight at both facilities, as well as development of all marketing, strategic development, budgeting, progress of construction operations and brand creation for a new short-term rehabilitation facility. He helped increase general hospital, health inspection and quality measure ratings and implemented a strategic marketing plan to increase referrals.

He later worked for PruittHealth where he was administrator of Union Pointe, a 90-bed short-term skilled rehabilitation facility in Monroe, North Carolina.

Laurenzana then worked at Atrium Health as the executive director of a 70-bed skilled nursing facility. That facility achieved a #1 rank nationally for three consecutive years through Medicare's Value-Based program. He later became the assistant vice president of Atrium Health Medical Group.

Under his leadership, the group saw decreased readmission rates, an additional $12 million in revenue and yearly quality recognition by US News & World Report.

Laurenzana served in the United States Marine Corps from 1998 to 2002. He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Illinois and a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare management from Liberty University. He is a fellow of the American college of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Marine Corps league and American Legion. He has served on a number of boards, including the Union County Consolidated Human Services Board, Union Academy Charter School Board and the Literacy Council of Union County.

Encompass Health is the largest owner and operator of rehabilitation hospitals in the United States. It has over 150 hospitals in 35 states and Puerto Rico.
