End of an era: Decades-old Rossetti’s sign taken down in Wallace

There has never been a whole lot to see in Wallace, just over the San Joaquin County line in Calaveras County, it takes less than a minute to drive through town. But by the side of the road in the middle of town, you’ll find the building that was once home to a popular restaurant called Rossetti’s. The restaurant closed years ago and the property was sold, but still hanging in front of the building was the decades-old original neon sign that boldly welcomed hungry travelers in the night. This past weekend, a small crowd gathered as family and friends plucked the namesake from its cracked plaster wall, and gently brought it down as pictures were taken and tears were shed.
