Endicott, Thousand Oaks ride quick start to rout Hueneme and remain unbeaten

Travis Endicott has completed 46 of 72 passes 862 yards and 10 touchdowns for unbeaten Thousand Oaks.

Better than the incredible start.

As satisfying as being part of the best start by the Thousand Oaks High football program in seven years.

Handing the ball off to third-string running back Camden Hill and seeing the senior bull his way into the end zone. Well, it hardly gets any better than that to quarterback Travis Endicott.

Endicott completed 15 of 21 passes for 272 yards and two TDs as Thousand Oaks (3-0) defeated host Hueneme 40-0 in a nonleague game Friday night.

As Thousand Oaks (3-0) jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, Endicott was 9 of 11 for 204 yards and TD passes of 44 yards to Johnny Abarzua and 72 to Chase Martin.

The best came on the Lancers' final scoring drive as backups Brolin Harrah and Hill combined for 48 yards on six carries.

"Everybody loves Camden," said Endicott.

The fact that he had just one carry for 2 yards in Thousand Oaks' first two games did not distract Hill's work ethic in practice, said Endicott.

"I was so proud of seeing him score. And so was the rest of the team," Endicott said.

That has not gone unnoticed by the Lancers coaching staff.

"Brolin and Camden are the guys who carry the ball all week in practice and take a pounding from the first-team defense," said coach Evan Yabu. Harrah scored on a 25-yard run in the second quarter. "It is as rewarding for the coaches as for the kids."

The last time Thousand Oaks started 3-0 was when the 2015 team won its first six games en route to reaching the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division championship game.

For Hueneme (1-3), Robert Maria rushed 10 times for 55 yards.

The Vikings' only serious scoring threat came in the closing minutes. Hueneme drove inside the Thousand Oaks red zone, only to come up empty with a game-ending interception in the end zone by Luke Cole.

Manuel Cisneros and Matthew Perez registered quarterback sacks for the Hueneme defense.

Endicott, a transfer from Newbury Park, entered the game needed 276 yards to reach a milestone of 4,000 career yards,.

"I had no idea that I was close," said Endicott. "I really don't keep track of stats. All that matters is wins and losses. If we have to run the ball 40 times, we'll run 40 times."

Thousand Oaks needed only six plays for a game-opening 68-yard scoring drive. Endicott completed three consecutive passes. Martin put the finishing touches with a 12-yard run.

Endicott was 4-for-5 passing on Thousand Oaks' second possession, including a 44-yard TD strike to Abarzua. Martin's 72-yard reception with 1:16 left in the first quarter gave the Lancers a 20-0 lead.

Martin, who had 148 yards rushing and passing on eight plays, added a third TD in the third quarter on an 11-yard run. A long interception return by Andrew Lacombe helped set up the score.

Thousand Oaks opens the Canyon League season this Friday on the road against unbeaten Oak Park (4-0).

Hueneme continues its loaded nonleague schedule with an away game against Burbank-Burroughs.
