Sununu does not support reproductive rights; elect Sherman for governor

Oct. 3 – To the Editor:

For New Hampshire women and families, the importance of the upcoming election cannot be overstated. New Hampshire has become the sole New England state with a punitive abortion ban. Already we are seeing the effects: The Granite State has become a less desirable place to work and live, and women's health has been jeopardized. It's time to send Sununu packing.

The Governor poses as a pro-choice Republican, but he has consistently supported anti-choice decisions by the powerful Executive Council. The 24-week abortion ban he signed into law actively threatens physicians who provide obstetrical care across our state. Electing Dr. Tom Sherman to the corner office will ensure that New Hampshire is in concert with the five other New England states, protecting women by providing access to life saving healthcare.

Vote Michele Meyer for state rep in Maine; she does what's right

Oct. 3 -- To the Editor:

In this era of extreme partisan politics and the seemingly endless stream of lies, cheating, and distortion of facts, I am supporting Michele Meyer for re-election as Maine State Representative because she will continue to rise above all of that.

I expect our government officials to do what is right for their constituents - not what is best for his or her political party. I want to elect politicians who, while maintaining the policies and positions of their party as their moral and ethical compass, will work with an open mind and across party lines to achieve the best possible solutions and outcomes for us.

Michele Meyer is the House Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services in Augusta. This committee, comprised of members of both parties, tackles complex policy issues important to all Maine citizens and through her leadership, the Committee has found common ground and consensus on well more than half of the many bills heard. Instead of paralysis and feuding, the work gets done and done well.

I also expect our elected officials to be people of high integrity and quality of character. I have recently had the privilege of getting to know Michele Meyer, and she has a tremendous sense of duty to do what is best for her constituents. I can vouch for her boundless energy, intelligence, and integrity. She is open-minded, compassionate, and fair. She plays by the rules and will not allow herself to be pulled down by those who don’t.

Regardless of your party affiliation, I strongly encourage you to give Michele Meyer your thoughtful consideration - and then join me in voting to send her back to Augusta to continue working for all of us.
