From the Right: If our enemies coordinated their attacks
With more than 100,000 Russian troops camped on the border of Ukraine, and Chinese bombers and fighters constantly invading Taiwan's air space, China is likely to attack Taiwan after the Olympics is concluded in China. We also see growing disconcerting evidence of military coordination between China and Russia.
A few years ago I wrote a column about even more coordination among our enemies concerning this possibility: What would the United States military do if, on the same day, China attacked Taiwan, Russia attacked Ukraine, North Korea attacked South Korea and Iran attacked Israel? Threatened sanctions won't do any good in such a scenario.
I don't think we would go to nuclear war on any one of these attacks on an individual basis, except that Israel would defend itself with a nuclear response if needed. Then what? The days of America having the military forces to deal with conflicts in the Pacific and on the European continent at the same time has largely evaporated since the end of the Cold War with the old Soviet Union. If anyone dismisses this possibility, I'll simply remind you of Pearl Harbor. No one predicted that possibility in 1941.
What also is greatly concerning is the ineptness of our top military brass as evident when Biden gave Afghanistan away and left Americans and loyal Afghans behind. They did nothing. Not one had the courage to resign in protest. Currently we have the least competent military leadership in my memory. With Biden as president and our military brass more worried about “white rage” than keeping America safe, we are giving our enemies their best opportunity to make a successful move of aggression.
When I initially wrote the column on the possibility of a coordinated attack from our enemies, the Chinese did not have supersonic missiles. While the supersonic missiles might not be fully perfected, China seems very close to having this weapon operational. Thus far, we do not seem to have any defense against supersonic missiles. I especially worry about defending our nuclear carrier task forces now that supersonic missiles are on the verge of being operational and capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. The loss of even one carrier task force would be catastrophic in terms of the losses of men and women, planes, pilots and the array of additional ships protecting our carrier.
Earlier I stated that no one in our military seriously thought that the Japanese could effectively attack Pearl Harbor in 1941. But America had one very visionary general in Billy Mitchell, who predicted the Pearl Harbor attack in 1924, 17 years in advance of the actual event. Mitchell also was far ahead of U.S. military thinking when he declared that naval ships, which he called “sitting ducks,” could be destroyed by a bomber attack. This greatly irritated the Navy's brass. Mitchell finally forced a demonstration of air power versus a captured German ship from WWI, the Ostfriesland. It was sunk by U.S. bombers in 1921 much to the embarrassment of Navy brass and President Warren Harding.
Now that China has displayed the capability of supersonic missiles to be used on land or naval targets, they also can be used in space to take out our satellites, blinding much of our military's effectiveness. History has proven that once the first shot is fired no one can predict the ultimate consequences. Should a coordinated attack be launched by any of our four main enemies — China, Russia, Iran and North Korea — using non-nuclear weapons, this could swiftly escalate into an all-out nuclear war costing billions of lives.
The closest visionary we have today who reminds me of Mitchell is former President Donald Trump, who created the Space Force as a new branch of our military. Supersonic rockets launched from space toward targets on Earth or supersonic rockets launched from China toward our satellites in space desperately need to be addressed as a great potential threat. With all of our military assets on land, sea and space now vulnerable to an attack from China, Trump, like Mitchell, grasped the seriousness of the situation. He was mocked but made the right decision.
If you then factor in the possibility of a coordinated attack that could include Russia, Iran or North Korea, we are facing a threat far greater than the old Soviet Union coming at a time when America has the most incompetent leader in our history as our president.
