Enfield rallies past E.O. Smith in softball

Apr. 30—Meredith Higgins came through for the Enfield High softball team for the second straight game like a senior should.

On Wednesday, Higgins' drove in the lead run with a double and scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the seventh inning of Enfield's one-run win over South Windsor.

The Eagles (9-2) trailed the Panthers (3-5) 5-1 before rallying in the fifth and sixth.

Tiffany Lubanski doubled home Sammy Dubiel in the fifth. Then after a Higgins hit, Taylor Lathrop tripled to plate courtesy runner Sula Roberge and Higgins to make it 5-4.

Brenna Lyver reached on an error to open the sixth and pinch-runner Jayleen O'Connell moved to second on a one-out sacrifice fly bunt by Dubiel. After a walk to Lubanski and Sophie Verrengia's infield single loaded the bases, Higgins doubled to bring in O'Connell and Roberge for a 6-5 lead.
