Enfield's Marshall plans works

Sep. 9—The Enfield High girls soccer team's better half showed through over the final 40 minutes of its season opener Thursday.

The Eagles exploded for four unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half to break a tie and went on to defeat host East Hartford 5-1 in a CCC East game.

Alyssa Hosig opened the scoring for Enfield before East Hartford got even at halftime on a goal by Tayla Garro. But then the Eagles took over as Sydney Marshall scored twice with Aubree Usher and Izzy Huffman adding a goal each.

Audrey Mazzarella had two assists for the Eagles. Goalie Mia Daly made two saves. East Hartford goalie Zoe Mercado kept the Hornets in it in the first half and finished with nine saves.

Enfield entertains E.O. Smith Tuesday, the same day East Hartford travels to South Windsor.

MANCHESTER 3, RHAM 1. Kaylee Cormier scored twice in a five-minute span of the second half to lift Manchester to a CCC East season-opening home win.

Liz Schoeneberger's goal gave the Red Hawks a halftime lead. RHAM tied before Cormier struck to put Manchester in charge.

Manchester is at East Catholic Tuesday, the same day RHAM hosts Tolland.

E.O. SMITH 3, SOUTH WINDSOR 0. E.O. Smith broke open a close game with two second-half goals in a CCC East season-opening victory in Storrs.

Emma Noheimer's goal put the Panthers ahead at halftime. Goals by Paige Raynor and Maddy Hughes accounted for the final score. Haley Butler made six saves in goal for South Windsor.

The Bobcats play their home opener on Tuesday against East Hartford.

TOLLAND 5, EAST CATHOLIC 0. Sophomore Cali-Dean Craft had two goals and an assist as Tolland rolled to a CCC East season-opening home victory.

Tolland led 3-0 at halftime on goals by Craft, Casey Shorts, and Taylor Sztaba. The hosts added to their lead on an early second-half goal by Craft with Maria Cayward closing out the scoring with 29:31 left. Cayward also had two assists with Shorts and Aiyanna Robles-Sedano chipping in an assist each.

Tolland goalies Ella Santini and Kelus Hurst combined on the shutout with five saves while East Catholic's Rosie Sadlak had five saves.

East Catholic entertains Manchester Tuesday, the same day Tolland travels to RHAM.

LYMAN MEMORIAL 3, SOMERS 2. Goals by Emily McKelvey and Madeline Archer in the final nine minutes gave Lyman Memorial a come-from-behind win in season-opening non-league action in Lebanon.

Magda Carpenter gave the Bulldogs an early lead before Devon Dalessio, assisted by Avery D'Amour, tied it at halftime. A pass by D'Amour's set up a goal by Deidre Dalessio to put the Spartans in front for the first time but they could not hold on.

Phoebe Carpenter had 18 saves for Lyman, while Grace Dina stopped eight shots for Somers.

The Spartans host Coginchaug Saturday.

EAST GRANBY 1, ROCKVILLE 0. Morgan Egan's goal midway through the first half was enough to give East Granby the NCCC season-opening win in Vernon.

Jordan Galica made four saves for Rockville. Jenna Schmidt, Anna Moore, and Piper Jones were standouts.

The Rams host Ellington Tuesday.

ST. BERNARD 4, WINDSOR LOCKS 0. Sienna Sferrazza's hat trick paced St. Bernard to a season-opening non-league win in Uncasville.

Angelica Tompkins also scored for the Saints. Goalie Chloe Jennings made six saves for the shutout. Allison Gough recorded eight saves for Windsor Locks.

The Raiders host Bolton for their NCCC opener Tuesday.
