England, Arkansas celebrates Kansas City Chiefs player BJ Thompson on his way to Super Bowl LVIII

ENGLAND, Ark. – Kansas City Chiefs player BJ Thompson didn’t forget his hometown on his way to Super Bowl LVIII.

A video recorded by BJ addressed to his hometown was played during a Friday prep rally at his alma mater, England High School.

“Coming all the way from England, Arkansas to Kansas City, getting ready to play for the Super Bowl, it’s a blessing,” Thompson said.

Residents of England, like his former teacher Nancy Sloan, showed up to cheer for him on his way to the Big Game

Sloan said BJ’s character outweighs his athletic ability, which is saying a lot for someone with NFL talent.

“He’s a good guy,” she said. “He loves his town, and the town loves him.”

“I wanted to put on for my town and show them that anything is possible no matter where you come from, and hopefully I’m doing that,” Thompson said in a news conference.

Sloan said BJ’s draft day was special, but if he becomes a world champion it would be one of the greatest days in the history of England.

“BJ’s going to have something that nobody else has in England: A Super Bowl ring,” she said. “And I am so excited about that.”
