English Premier League double-header featuring soccer stars comes to Atlanta this summer

One of the top soccer leagues in the world is coming to Atlanta this summer for an exciting double header featuring star players.

The Premier League, which has 20 teams spread across England, will send four of its teams to play preseason games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta.

The doubleheader kicks off July 26 at 5:30 p.m. with a match between Brentford FC and Brighton & Hove Albion FC and then a match between Chelsea FC and Newcastle FC which is scheduled to kick off at 8:15 p.m.

Chelsea features Christian Pulisic, who is considered one of the best American soccer players in the world, who starred for the United States during the 2022 World Cup.

While Newcastle features former Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron, who helped United win the 2018 MLS Cup before he moved on to the Premier League a year later.

Rosters have not been set for either of these matches.

Atlanta United is excited to be the host club for these matches, according to Club President and CEO Garth Lagerway.

“We’re really excited for Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the City of Atlanta to be chosen to host this event,” Lagerwey said. “As an organization, we see this as another step in Atlanta becoming a premier destination for the biggest club and international competitions that our sport has to offer. This will be a great opportunity to showcase our world-class stadium to a new audience, and like many fans in our region, we’re looking forward to hosting these teams and other top competitions in the future.”

This will be the first time ever Premier League teams have played against each other in Atlanta.

A natural grass pitch will be installed at Mercedes-Benz Stadium to better support the Premier League players.

This will be a warmup for Atlanta before the city plays host to several matches during the 2026 World Cup.

There will also be preseason matches this summer in Philadelphia, Orlando, Harrison, NJ and Landover, MD.
