The Balanced Rock, a historic landmark in North Salem, stands on Titicus Road. The estimated 60-ton granite boulder sits on five smaller rocks. Some think it was deposited here during the glacial period, and some think it may be a dolmen, or tomb, memorializing the dead.

The museum and garden, open April to November, was founded in 1957 by Natalie Hays Hammond as a place where Eastern and Western cultures meet.
