Jun. 3—Free Fun Weekend 2021, all day June 5-6, Wisconsin. For the first weekend every June, explore state parks, trails, rivers and more with state park admission fees, fishing licenses and trail passes waived. Admission stickers aren't required at any of the 49 state parks or 15 state forests over the weekend. More info at dnr.wisconsin.gov/events/44266.

Soudan Mine Surface Walk, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily through June 30, Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park. Tour is east of the park, which is 2 miles east of Tower off U.S. Highway 169. Join an interpreter as you walk through time while learning about various surface buildings and their significance to the mining operation. Masks required in buildings; social distancing encouraged. Bird Walk, 8-9 a.m. June 6, Jay Cooke State Park, 3 miles east of Carlton on Minnesota Highway 210. Listen and look for many of the park's birds, including warblers, woodpeckers and sparrows. Investigating Your Superior Rivers: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., June 15, Coaster Classroom, Whittlesey Creek National Wildlife Refuge and at Fish Creek, Ashland. Educators in all formal and informal settings are invited to join staff from the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and Superior Rivers Watershed Association. Educators will also connect with Superior Rivers Watershed Association, a local citizen science, nonprofit organization. Successful completion of the workshop and an implementation plan for the coming school year will earn participants a $200 stipend. Free; lunch provided. Adaptive Sailing: 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 15-Aug. 3, Duluth Superior Sailing Center. Ages 6 and up. Specialized boats are adapted to accommodate a wide range of abilities and ages. Students will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of paddling in a 19-foot tandem kayak with an experienced Courage Kenny volunteer instructor in the Duluth Harbor.
