They run this town: Racers take on the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run

The annual Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run conquered the Talmadge Bridge on Saturday in the Historic District.

Known as “The South’s Toughest Bridge Run,” the Enmarket Savannah event challenges participants to run once, twice or three times — combining both the 5K and 10K road races into the "Double Pump" division — over the city’s Talmadge Bridge.

More than 3,500 runners had registered for the event by the start of the week, with organizers expecting more than 5,000 runners by Saturday morning.

The race weekend kicked off on Friday with the Health & Wellness Expo at the Keho Ironworks Building in Trustees’ Gardens. The Expo featured running and health-related vendors, merchandise and visitor information.

Attendees also had a chance to win up to $400 during the costume contest. Awards were given to the most creative person or group.
