ENMU awarded research grant

Oct. 25—Portales — Eastern New Mexico University has been awarded $749,976 over three years as the lead institution on a grant from the Department of Energy.

The grant is for research on the use of carbonyl as an infrared reporter for probing the nature of charges in donor-acceptor type conjugated molecules.

According to a news release from ENMU, Juchao Yan of Eastern New Mexico University, the principal investigator, who is a professor of Chemistry, and the Chair of Department of Physical Sciences heads the team with two co-principal investigators from two other New Mexico Universities.

"I am proud that three New Mexico Universities are part of this endeavor as are the students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as the post-docs." Yan said.

The news release reported Sandra Biedron, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico and Marat Talipov an Associate Professor of Chemistry at New Mexico State University are collaborating on the grant.

"Interdisciplinary collaboration between the academic and national lab research teams builds an excellent environment for exciting research and for training of the next-generation STEM workforce," Talipov said.
