ENMU tracksters compete in WT meet

Apr. 25—CANYON — Eastern New Mexico University's athletes set several personal bests in Saturday's Buffalo Invitational, hosted by West Texas A&M.

Freshman Alex Williams led a 1-3-4 ENMU finish in men's javelin, throwing 175 feet, with junior Devis Cheruiyot (143-0) and Jude Murray (141-6) following. Also in field events, sophomore Luis Holguin was third in pole vault (12-9 3/4 ) and freshman Noe Ybaben took third (44-6) in shot put.

On the track, freshman John Magee (11.26 seconds) and Josh Bachechi (14.69) ran 2-7 in the 100; Cheruiyot was second in the 400 (52.84); freshman Aiden Kepfer placed seventh (2:14.92) and junior Ricky Diaz eighth (2:19.98) in the 800, and junior Ethan Woodrome was eighth in the 1,500 (4:48.31).

On the women's side, ENMU took three first-place finishes — freshman Mahault Lebrun in the 400 hurdles (1:05.58); junior Lauren Griego in the 3,000 steeplechase (13:18.18), and junior Tamia Smith in shot put (41-4 1/4 ). Smith was also third in hammer (135-1) while freshman Kennedy Ulmer placed second in shot put (40-9 1/2 ) and discus (140-11) and freshman Jha'Niah Johnson took sixth in discus (125-4).

Junior Savannah Romero ran 1:03.72 for second in the 400, followed by freshman Meghan Rodriguez (1:03.74). Other seconds were posted by sophomore Kaylyn De La Rosa in the 800 (2:28.73) and Maritza Alvarez in the 1,500 (5:28.61).

ENMU tracksters will be in Lubbock on Friday and Saturday for Texas Tech's Corky-Crofoot Shootout.
