ENNY Connects With Odeal For Stylish New Rap Cut “Bernie Mac”

Back with her first new release since her exceptional debut EP Under Twenty Five, South East London’s ENNY has teamed up with fellow South Londoner Odeal for her new single “Bernie Mac”.

Given the flood of critical acclaim (very deservedly) heaped on Under Twenty Five, you could have forgiven the “Peng Black Girls” rhymer for feeling a little pressure, but if she did she hides it very well. As ever, she’s completely cool-headed throughout as she goes toe-to-toe with Odeal, a prodigious talent who’s making his own highly celebrated marks on the R&B scene.

Production for this one comes from rising, Essex-based talent Tyegreen, whose other credits include work for Chelmsford rhymer SafeNath and R&B riser BaggE. Here he supplies the pair with a slightly more uptempo beat than we’re used to, bringing a different sound out of both artists. ENNY’s flow has a more barbed edge compared to what we heard on the EP, and Odeal has swapped out the seductive crooning entirely, instead favouring a dynamic rap flow to match his sparring partner.

Together, they make for a deadly pair and from what Enny says, it sounds like they hit it off instantly. “Odeal and I initially went to work on a completely different song but as soon as the producer played the beat, we knew what it was—straight gass,” says ENNY. It was nice for us to step out of our expected sounds, you don’t need to put yourself in a box.”
