Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week Nov. 4

In a vote that ended Nov. 4, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Mercy Health, from high school sports action through Oct. 30.

Winners will receive certificates by the end of the sports season.

The Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports.

Ohio football team of the week: St. Xavier – The Bombers opened the postseason on the road but earned a 42-28 victory at Fairfield.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football team of the week: Covington Catholic – The Colonels beat Ryle 47-21, reaching over 40 points scored for the third time in four weeks.

Ohio fall boys team of the week: McNicholas soccer – The Rockets won their district after a 2-0 shutout of Indian Hill before a 3-1 win against Chaminade Julienne.

Ohio fall girls team of the week: Loveland soccer – Loveland clinched a district title after beating Turpin 1-0 followed by a 3-2 win against top-seeded Centerville.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana fall boys team of the week: St. Henry cross country – St. Henry cruised to its second-straight state title and 18th overall in the Class 1A state meet.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana fall girls team of the week: Beechwood cross country – The Tigers won the Class 1A state championship, the first girls cross country title in the program’s history.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys cross country runner of the week: Will Sheets, Covington Catholic – He won the 3A state cross country champion in 15:28, setting a new school record and becoming only the third Northern Kentucky male to win the 3A boys title.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls cross country runner of the week: Lily Parke, Beechwood – She finished second in the 1A state meet in 19:29 to lead the Tigers to their first state championship in team history.

Ohio boys cross country runner of the week: Andrew Wilcox, Monroe – His top-10 finish in 16:07 at the Division I regional meet saw him qualify for the state meet.

Ohio girls cross country runner of the week: Grace Biddle, Little Miami – She barely missed her season-best time of 18:23 but ran 18:31 to finish in fourth at the Division I regional meet.

Ohio big school football player of the week: Jack McClatchey, St. Xavier – McClatchey had four catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns in St. Xavier’s 42-28 playoff win over Fairfield.

Ohio small school football player of the week: Landen Wynn, Monroe – Wynn ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns in Monroe’s 53-15 playoff win over Hughes.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana football player of the week: Tate Kruer, Covington Catholic – He intercepted three passes, one short of the school record, and led the Colonels with seven tackles in their 47-21 win over Ryle.

Ohio boys big school soccer player of the week: William Wettengel, Mason – The senior had an assist in a win over Elder, then stepped up against Beavercreek, scoring two goals to lead the Comets to a district championship.

Ohio boys small school soccer player of the week: Marko Zanardo, Mariemont – He had one goal in each of the Warriors’ wins over Cincinnati Christian and Greeneview.

Ohio girls big school soccer player of the week: Marlee Scanlon, Milford – The junior had a goal in a hard-fought 3-2 win over West Clermont. She also scored the Eagles’ second goal, which proved to be the game-winner, in a 2-1 win over Springboro.

Ohio girls small school soccer player of the week: Sarah Deaton, Monroe – Her hat trick led Monroe past Clinton Massie. She then assisted on two scores in a win over Mercy McAuley.

Ohio big school volleyball player of the week: Ava Wolfer, Mount Notre Dame – In district tournament wins over Turpin and Centerville, the Libero totaled 26 digs, a 2.0 average serve-receive and had a pair of aces.

Ohio small school volleyball player of the week: Elena Stone, Summit Country Day – The sophomore had 16 kills and 14 digs in Summit’s tournament win over Alter.

Northern Kentucky volleyball player of the week: Kiana Dinn, Ryle – She was named all-tournament after leading the Raiders to the Ninth Region final, where they lost to Notre Dame. She averaged 13.3 kills, 10 assists and 6.3 digs in the three matches.
