Enrolled at UTEP for fall semester? Check out list of student-friendly events

Students at the University of Texas at El Paso will have over 22 activities to look forward to during the fall semester.

Miner Welcome events will take place the first two weeks of the fall semester, showcasing socials, barbecues and campus-wide fairs, a UTEP news release stated.

"We know that engagement is critical for our students' educational journey, especially for our undergraduates," Charlin Jones-Chávez, Ph.D., assistant dean of students for engagement, stated in the news release. "Greater engagement is associated with several positive outcomes such as persistence to degree, learning and satisfaction. Our goal with Miner Welcome is to set our students on the path to success."

Texas Western Gold Rush

The annual event begins at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at Centennial Plaza and will cap off the first day of classes with an evening of live music, performances, special guests, and fireworks, the news release stated.

Get Involved and Well-being Fair

The fair will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 25 at Centennial Plaza. For students interested in joining a student organization, volunteering in the community or learning about academic programs, and detailed information about campus health and well-being resources, the news release stated.

Minerpalooza

The event will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Glory Road parking lot north of Sun Bowl Stadium. One of UTEP's largest fall events will feature a musical lineup of the region's talent, interactive activities, food vendors, Pete's Playground, a dedicated children's play area. A beer and wine garden will also be available to those 21 and older. Admission is free and open to the public.

UTEP student events for first 2 weeks of fall semester

Late Night at the Rec: From 8 p.m. to midnight Aug. 19. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Student Recreation Center for after-hours workouts or to participate in activities such as glow golf, laser tag, dance classes and more.

UTEP's School of Nursing Becomes College of Nursing: On Aug. 22, the School of Nursing will become the College of Nursing, advancing UTEP's commitment to expand the health professions workforce and improve access to health care in the Paso del Norte region and beyond. According to UTEP School of Nursing Dean Leslie K. Robbins, Ph.D., the name change better reflects the size and scope of the school's academic programs.

Miner Welcome Pep Rally: Starts at noon Aug. 24 in Centennial Plaza. The UTEP Spirit and Orange and Blue Spirit crews will host a pep rally to gather students before UTEP football's first home game against the University of North Texas. Players and coaches will be present for this event.

Sunset at Centennial: This event will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 with team-building activities and will transition into a picnic-style time to rest on the Centennial Plaza lawn, toss around sports balls, and hang out with friends.

Chalk the Plaza: From 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 30 at Union Plaza.UTEP students, faculty and staff can show their UTEP spirit and pride through art. Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy music and food while getting to know their fellow Miners.
