Enrollment rebounds at Gavilan College
Nov. 3—Gavilan College announced recently that enrollment increased this semester following a steady decline that was exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the college, enrollment increased to 12,139 for the fall 2022 semester, up from 11,227 the previous year. Enrollment stood at 17,140 in 2017 before declining, and dipped by 22% in 2020 due to the pandemic.
"The great news is that this fall semester, we are up 3% in student unduplicated headcount and 8% in enrollments (seats)," Superintendent/President Pedro Avila said during the October Governing Board of Trustees meeting. "This reflects everyone's hard work and commitment to returning to campus and re-engaging with our students. While other community colleges are still experiencing declining, or flat enrollment numbers, Gavilan is on the upswing. I am proud to declare that Gavilan College is back."
Gavilan Board Trustee Rachel Perez said, "This is great news. Not only is the college budget finally balanced, but these enrollment numbers speak volumes of our new leadership and all the collaboration taking place on campus. It feels good to see our students, faculty, and staff back on campus, with the parking lots almost at capacity."
