Bookmaker Entain is said to be in talks to appoint the first woman to run a London-listed gambling group.
The owner of Ladbrokes, Coral and Gala is lining up board member Jette Nygaard-Andersen as its next chief executive.
A deal has not yet been reached, but an announcement is likely to come as soon as next week, Sky News reported.
She would replace Shay Segev, who unexpectedly resigned last week after just seven months as chief executive.
He will become co-chief executive of sports streaming service DAZN, run by billionaire Sir Len Blavatnik, who owns overseas TV rights to the likes of English cricket and the Premier League.
It comes as Entain tries to fend off an £8bn takeover by Las Vegas casino operator MGM Resorts.
Rumours have been circulating of a split between Entain’s bosses and their non-executive counterparts, with the former said to be “desperate” to do a deal with the US casino giant.
Ms Nygaard-Andersen, a Dane, joined Entain’s board as a non-executive director in December 2019. Before that, she was a director at the Stockholm-based entertainment conglomerate Modern Times Group.
