Entertaining Galah Goes Nuts for a Gumnut

A galah was seen living up to the slang meaning of its name in Western Australia recently, with video showing it being driven a bit nuts by a gumnut.

The video, recorded by Grainne Wray in Chidlow, shows the pink-headed bird squirming about on the grass, its claws clenching a gumnut. The galah is seen pecking the nut and playing with it, while performing acrobatics and rolling about.

“Galahs are well known for being silly and playful,” Wray told Storyful.

She explained that the term “galah” was often used in a derogatory way, to refer to a “loud-mouthed idiot”.

Wray originally uploaded the footage to a private Facebook bird-watching group, with the caption “I could watch them all day.” Credit: Grainne Wray via Storyful
