Entertainment venue Dave & Buster's plans a July opening for its first location in Iowa
People in the Des Moines metro have long awaited the opening of Dave & Buster’s, the family-friendly sports bar that serves American fare and arcade games, and this summer, the massive 21,000-square-foot location plans to make its debut.
The company out of Coppell, Texas, opens its first location in Iowa on July 31.
Construction is underway on just under an acre at 170 S. Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, near the Residence Inn by Marriott east of Jordan Creek Town Center Lake and just south of Jordan Creek Town Center near the cinemas.
The space includes more than 100 arcade games and what the company calls a massive 40-foot “WOW” Wall with dozens of HDTVs for sports viewing. Games include "Wicked Tuna," based on the TV show, a "Top Gun: Maverick" virtual reality game, and dodgeball as well as classics such as Pac-Man and Skee-Ball, all located on Dave & Buster's Million Dollar Midway.

The menu offers barbecue flatbread, a Philly cheesesteak, and boneless wings, and includes gluten-friendly and vegetarian options.
Right now, Dave & Buster's wants to hire 175 people to join the team. Front- and back-of-house positions including servers, bartenders, hosts, line cooks, game techs, and more are available. Interested candidates should complete an online application at daveandbusters.com/careers.
“We are so excited to open the first Dave & Buster’s Iowa location in the rapidly growing city of Des Moines,” general manager Zach Darbonne said in a news statement.
The first Dave & Buster's opened in Dallas in December 1982, and now the company has more than 140 locations. Until July, the closest Dave & Buster's that's open is at 2502 S. 133rd Plaza #11, Omaha.
