JACKSON TWP. – Environmental activist Erin Brockovich will speak at Kent State University at Stark on Sept 13.

Brockovich's initial appearance scheduled for April had been canceled. Due to limited seating capacity, tickets will not be honored from Brockovich's previously scheduled speaking event, the school said.

The Featured Speakers Series is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and limited to two per person. Ticket distribution is first-come, first served. No phone or email reservations will be accepted, and tickets will not be mailed. All tickets are general admission.

Tickets are available for pickup beginning Aug. 15 in the Office of Student Services, 132 Main Hall, on campus at 6000 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township. They can be picked from 8 am. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Brockovich will speak at the Timken Great Hall at the KSU at Stark Conference Center. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and Brockovich will speak at 7:30 p.m.

A popular movie released in 2000 was based on Brockovich's fight against Pacific Gas and Electric Co. for its role in groundwater contamination in Hinkley, California. Actress Julia Roberts portrays Brockovich in the film.

Brockovich, president of Brockovich Research & Consulting, is currently involved in numerous environmental projects worldwide. She also assists with groundwater contamination complaints in every state, as well as overseas.

A bestselling author, her latest book is "Superman's Not Coming: Our National Water Crisis and What We the People Can Do About It."
