MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

DOUBLE-A

AMARILLO SOD POODLES 4 SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS 3

What this game means: The Sod Poodles remain in playoff contention after an impressive comeback performance against the Missions on Tuesday. Amarillo is now 64-68 on the season after they scored three runs in the eighth inning to upend San Antonio.

Game highlights: The first two innings were scoreless before San Antonio put up a run in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth. Juan Centeno hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth to make it 3-1, but neither team scored again until the AMAgical eighth. That was when Tim Tawa scored Deyvison De Los Santos on a RBI force out to shave the deficit to one. Later, Centeno put the Soddies ahead with a RBI double to score Tawa and Tristin English and make it 4-3. That's all the offense Amarillo needed as they started this week's series off with a W.

Stars of the game: Who else but Centeno? The veteran went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run as he carried the offense. Credit Robby Enriquez for a 3-for-4 evening as well. Credit the pitching big time in this one. Starter Jamison Hill went five innings, gave up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks, but struck out four. The Bullpen was practically flawless as Austin Pope struck out two in two innings of work without surrendering a hit or walk. Mack Lemieux walked one in one inning, but didn't allow a base runner otherwise and Kyle Backhus gave up one hit and struck out two to close out the game.
