EPISD, others announce delayed start for Monday

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – With inclement weather, including possible snow flurries on Monday, Jan. 8, here’s the list of reported closures or delays around the Borderland. Other school districts like Canutillo and Ysleta ISD say they are monitoring the weather situation.

Clint and Canutillo ISD both said they will be on regular schedules on Monday.

El Paso Independent School District

All EPISD campuses and offices will be on a two-hour delay Monday, Jan. 8. During this delay, all transportation and meal schedules will be adjusted accordingly.

Morning activities, including athletics and fine arts, have been canceled. Morning access to Extended Day Learning Centers and Pre-K morning activities will not be available but will resume in the afternoon.

CCTE students attending in the morning will report to their home campuses, while afternoon CCTE classes will be held as normal.

Coronado High School teachers and staff will also be on a two-hour delay. Coronado High School students will return to classes on Wednesday, January 10th, as previously communicated.

Additionally, breakfast will be available at all campuses when students arrive for the delayed start.

William Beaumont Army Medical Center

William Beaumont Army Medical Center will cancel and reschedule all appointments prior to 10 a.m.

Patients can voluntarily cancel and reschedule appointments through the MHS GENESIS patient portal, online. Patients who were scheduled for early morning surgeries will be contacted by their healthcare team for rescheduling.

Gadsden ISD

Due to anticipated frigid temperatures Monday morning and the likelihood of unsafe road conditions, all classes will begin after a 2-hour delay on Monday, January 8th, 2024. When inclement weather arises, we work closely with our transportation partner, Boone Transportation, the New Mexico Department of Transportation, and the New Mexico State Police before our buses begin their morning routes. In light of the expected winter weather, it has been concluded that the roads will not be safe for travel.

For precise start times for your student, check your school’s website or stay tuned to Remind messages from your child’s school administration.

El Paso Catholic Schools

Due to the anticipated lower temperatures and potential worsening inclement weather
overnight, all Catholic Schools in El Paso County will operate on a delayed two hour start for
tomorrow January 8, 2024 for the safety and well-being of Catholic school students and staff.

Fabens ISD

Students, teachers, and staff at Fabens Independent School District will
operate on a delayed start of two hours on Monday, January 8 2024. This is in
response to expected inclement weather that may create extreme conditions. Safety is
a top priority.

Fort Bliss

Due to inclement weather expected tomorrow morning, Fort Bliss will have a late work call of 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, for Soldiers and DA Civilians to report to their place of duty.

Child Development Centers on the installation will open no later than 9 a.m.

Please take the extra time to travel safely tomorrow, particularly on bridges and other roadway surfaces that may be subject to freezing. Stay in communication with your chain of command.
